Small changes, big impact. Below are 3 key ways to enhance the look of any space.

No 1: Wall Paneling
Adding Contrast and Texture
Combine soft textiles (e.g. velvet or linen) with hard materials (e.g. metal or wood). This balance adds richness and texture, making the space feel thoughtfully curated. For added dimension, incorporate contrasting hues or colours to create visual interest. Depicted in the rendering below is a perfect example of how soft fabrics and harder materials create visual play within the space, allowing the viewer's eye to wander about the room.

Achieve the Look:
• Use harder materials for static pieces (console, bed frame, night tables) while using soft materials interchangeably throughout the space (pillows, linens, curtains, throws)
• Linen wallcoverings are a perfect way to create softness within the space
• Contrasting colours and hues always provide visual interest (pro tip: do NOT match your bed frame to your night tables!)
No 2: Layered Lighting
Adding Depth and Ambience
Swap harsh overhead lights for a mix of ambient, task, and accent lighting. Think floor lamps, wall sconces, or even candles to create warmth and visual interest in any room. Under-mount cabinet lighting is especially effective in custom millwork to create an airy and ethereal feel. Depicted in the rendering below are four types of lighting; natural, pendant, table top, and under-mount (beneath the drawers in the bedside tables). It creates depth, movement and softness.

Achieve the Look:
• Swap recessed lighting (pot lights) for hanging pendants and chandeliers
• Choose the right colour temperature for the right space; bedrooms work well with 2500K-3000K warmer light while offices and kitchens do better with 4000-5000K cooler light (learn more about light temperatures here!)
• Emphasize natural light, as it helps regulate our circadian rhythm the best; use mirrors or polished materials to bounce natural light off multiple walls
No 3: Textured Artwork
Adding Unique Accessories to Elevate the Space
Art brings personality and uniqueness to any space. Textured or oversized wall art can instantly elevate a room. When placed strategically, it can also emphasized certain characteristics of the space. Depicted in the rendering below is a triptych; a set of three associated artworks positioned equal distances apart, above the king sized bed frame. Not only does the textured artwork provide dimension and fun, but it also emphasizes the height and width of the space.

Achieve the Look:
• Try to choose diptych or triptych art pieces, as they provide visual movement and rhythm
• Choose an artwork that pulls colours and hues from other finishes found within the space (e.g. have a beautiful yellow velvet lounge chair in the office? Choose an artwork with hints of mustard to create visual play between both entities)
• Less is sometimes more; if the room is busy with accessories and accent pieces, opt for a more subdued painting so as not to overwhelm the eye
Key Takeaways to Enhance the Space
• It doesn't have to be expensive
• Colour provides the most powerful and cost effective change
• Manipulating light sets the mood
